Behind the scenes: Expansion of the Turm Café turning mechanism
From September 11 to 13, 2023, the derailed rotating mechanism of the Turm Café was removed.
This mechanism allows our guests to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view during their stay in the Café.
However, due to an unfortunate error during the last repair, the system suffered damage.
Our rotating mechanism has a long history and has been in service for almost six decades. In 1963/1964, it was put into operation for the first time. The impressive gearbox that makes this impressive rotating function possible was manufactured in 1962 and weighs a proud 650 kg. Over the years, we have performed regular maintenance on this gearbox to ensure that it always functions properly.
Removing and then transporting the gearbox from the Turm Café was a challenging task that took about 10 hours. Currently, the gearboxe is in Germany. There it will be subjected to a thorough inspection and repaired if necessary.
Stay tuned for further updates and developments!
