Wien Holding Participation

October 4, 2020: Wien Holding acquires just over 25% of the shares in the Danube Tower.

Wien Holding will acquire a stake in the Danube Tower, announced Vienna's City Councillor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke and Wien Holding CEO Kurt Gollowitzer, together with Paul Blaguss and Matthias Kamp, the two shareholders of D-Turm Beteiligungsgesellschaft.

With its 252 meters, the Vienna Danube Tower is one of Vienna's most prominent landmarks. It was opened after two years of construction in 1964 on the occasion of the Vienna International Garden Show. Since 2015, the Vienna Danube Tower has been owned by a group of investors consisting of the shareholders Blaguss (Blaguss Beteiligungsgesellschaft m.b.H.), Fessler (Habeco Handelsgesellschaft m.b.H.), Leeb (Gilbert Leeb Beteiligungsgesellschaft m.b.H.) and Mag. Matthias Kamp.

"The Danube Tower is a landmark of Vienna, which I would like to preserve as a valuable asset for the city. That is why Wien Holding is participating in this important Viennese landmark. For me, participations are the right way for companies that were economically healthy before Corona and will be so again after this time. At the same time, we are securing jobs," said Mayor Michael Ludwig on ORF Press Hour on Sunday, October 4, 2020.

Up to 420,000 visitors are recorded at the Danube Tower per year. It is thus one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. "For some time now, we have been considering in what form the City of Vienna can get involved with the Danube Tower in order to help shape the future of this city landmark. Therefore, I am very pleased that this plan could now be concretized and that Wien Holding will participate in the Danube Tower. Together with the previous owners and partners in the company, we now want to further develop the site and secure it for the future," said City Councillor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke.

"We have been in exchange for a long time and again and are now very pleased that Wien Holding will actively shape the future of the Danube Tower. A sustainable and strategically anchored partnership that represents a real win-win situation for the Viennese landmark," said the Donauturm shareholders in unison.

Donauturm returns to its roots - strengthens the company portfolio

With Wien Holding's current stake of just over 25 percent, the Donauturm is virtually returning to its roots. This is because the Donauturm was already owned by Wien Holding from 1974 to 1992, until it was sold to Bank Austria.

"The participation in the Danube Tower is of very special interest for Wien Holding. This is because the Danube Tower fits perfectly into our investment portfolio, strengthens the Group's culture and tourism cluster and it is also a signal that we are thinking about the future and preparing ourselves for it. Therefore, in the coming months we will develop appropriate strategies and concepts together with the existing shareholders in order to further enhance the location - also with new attractions and event formats around the tower - and to sustainably position it as a crowd puller for the Viennese and our guests from abroad," says Wien Holding Managing Director Kurt Gollowitzer.

The Danube Tower experience: culinary highlights, thrills at dizzy heights and a breathtaking view of the city.

A trip to the Danube Tower is quite something: Located in one of the city's most beautiful and largest parks, the Danube Park, it is visible from afar and invites you to discover it.

The express lift takes you up to the observation terraces at a height of 150 meters for an unforgettable 360° panorama. This makes the Danube Tower a popular excursion destination and the perfect starting point for anyone who wants to discover the city. Once at the top, the view then sweeps into the distance to the borders of the city and even far beyond. And the culinary side of the Danube Tower is also impressive. In the tower restaurant or the tower café at a lofty height just below the top of the tower, everything revolves around Austrian cuisine, Austrian wine and Viennese hospitality - in the truest sense of the word. That's because the Danube Tower's restaurant rotates, providing a 360° panoramic view of Vienna. And at the foot of the tower, the Donaubräu and the Donaucafé invite visitors to linger.
